Lord of the Rings Boost

Last weekend I went to the beach with my family and we got incredibly lucky with the weather. Sunny and 75 degrees both days! If you’ve ever been to the Oregon Coast, you know that doesn’t happen all that often. This was one of my favorite shots from the trip and of course, I ran it through PhotoTools.

I started off with one of the Jack Davis effects, the Global Contrast Boost to increase the contrast of the photo. Next, I added the very popular Lord of the Rings effect by Kevin Kubota. No it doesn’t add any goblins or orcs to the image, but rather gives a bit of that dreamy, punchy color look from the Lord of the Rings movies. I finished the preset off with an edge blur (reduced a bit) and the Edges to Black (Large) effect. Of course, if you only like part of the preset, you can remove the edge treatments if you don’t like them. The effect with just the Global Contrast and the Lord of the Rings works just fine by itself if that is more to your liking.

Vibrant Black and White

Okay, I realize that “Vibrant” is typically a term used to describe a color image and not a black and white one, but in this case, I’ve combined one of Kevin Kubota’s Vibrant effects with one of my favorite black and white conversions by Jack Davis. The result is a new Vibrant Black and White preset for PhotoTools Professional Edition.

Velvia effect with Radiance

A little over a month ago, I posted a free PhotoTools preset called Radiant Spring for everyone to download. It was primarily for enhancing a landscape shot that contained a lot of green colors. Now, I’ve got another one called Radiant Landscape Velvia and I really like it. For this one, I’m using a photo I got from Fotolia by Diego Cervo - I think it’s a great shot and another good example to show you how you can turn a great shot into an even better one with PhotoTools Professional Edition.

The effect starts out with Kevin Kubota’s Daily Multi-Vitamin effect to increase the contrast as well as pump up some of the blues in the photo. Next on the list is the Kubota Radiance Landscape which is a great effect that boosts the color and vividness of the photo without softening it or adding any glow. The last step was to add the Velvia effect in PhotoTools which simulates the look achieved with Fuji Velvia film. I really like this preset and plan on using it a lot in the future. I hope you like it.
